Team Leader, Globalisation Team – Ref 458
Full time, permanent

The distinctive feature of the Globalisation Team's contribution to the Institute has been, and will continue to be, a focus on sustainable economic growth, and the role of the private sector in contributing to this. This work has used both quantitative approaches (CGE modelling, and econometric tools) and qualitative studies (notably work on value chains and standards).

The team recognises new and critical challenges for the global economy and global governance. The two most salient of these are climate change, where the team has worked on modelling the costs of adaptation at the country level and developed a line of work on low carbon innovation, and the rise of new global powers and their implications for development. The successful candidate will contribute to the team’s research, teaching and communications work in relation to these and other future areas of interest.

We are seeking a new Team Leader to join the Globalisation Team. We require an individual who has a well-established academic reputation and strong management experience, to contribute to the strategic direction of the Institute and provide intellectual leadership and direction to a strong team of professionals in conducting cutting-edge, policy-oriented research. The duties of this full-time position will be partly Team leadership (40%) and partly as a Research Fellow (60%) to develop and carry out a portfolio of research, teaching and consultancy activities.

Candidates must be able to contribute to the team’s core research themes: Promoting Growth through Trade, Investment and Innovation; Business and Development; and Climate Change. We will consider candidates from a range of disciplines (politics, economics, sociology, business, development studies) and areas of expertise who have a commitment to management, research and research leadership. Along with proven leadership and management skills, excellent written and spoken English is required.

Salary: £52,405 - £70,000 per annum
Closing date: 31 August 2011 at 12.00 midday (UK time)
Telephone interviews: 28 and 29 September 2011
Interview date at IDS: 19 October 2011
